In the timeless town of Macondo, seven generations of the Buendía family grapple with love, oblivion, and the inevitability of their past and destiny. This is Netflix’s most expensive Latin American project to date, with Colombian groups and indigenous communities building props and sets for the series. Cited in Radio Dolin: The Results of 2024. The Best Films of the Year (2024). I just finished the first episode. This could have been really terrible, but it isn’t. It’s always a challenge to translate inner thoughts, fears, doubts, and internal reactions into things like visions! The dubbing is pretty good in English, but I switched to Spanish with English subtitles and it felt more comfortable. I’m glad they took their time on the table because it’s important to set the scene and even this way it feels a bit rushed, but with sixteen episodes I’ll live with that. I’ve read the book three times in my life and it’s okay. No expense was spared on the locations and sets and it helps set the mood. I can’t wait to see the questionable ethnic stuff! No censorship please!
